Recently, I began volunteering for Sacramento Child Advocates (SCA), a not-for-profit organization that provides legal representation, via attorneys and social workers, to children who have been removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse. Yes, it’s a horrible thing to think about but it’s very, very real. This is the only such organization in Sacramento County, which boasts a population of approximately 1.4 million, 26% of whom are children under the age of 18. The SCA handles approximately 5,000 cases annually on behalf of these precious children. Sadly, they are busy.
I am reaching out to every single person who ever looks at this blog to ask for a donation for this very worthwhile organization. It’s been around for over 16 years but, until recently, it did not have a full-time employee spearheading fund-raising efforts. Now there is an Advancement/Development Director who is making up for lost time in laying the structure for years to come. I am trying to help by spreading the word.
How much is too little to give? There is no figure too small and the beauty of this is by simply clicking on their website then clicking on the very obvious red "Donate Now" button, you can make a donation faster than you can pay for an eBay purchase. I tested it by making a donation using their link to Pay Pal. I think it took me a total of under 2 minutes. But in that 2 minutes, I did "something" to help these kids in need. Do you have two minutes?
Besides Pay Pal, you can opt to pay via Groundspring (you will have the option to choose one or the other to donate). Groundspring offers a monthly donation option where your donations can occur automatically. So easy! You could set up $x to be deducted once per month? I could see someone giving up one Starbucks latte per month and donating that to SCA. Anything is appreciated, really!
Some people just do not have the time to volunteer or attend fund-raising events. The plain truth is that making a donation is easy and if that’s the most any of us can do, it sure beats doing nothing!
