Project Life by SU (Stampin’ Up!) for You Blog Tour – 9 cards (nope, not scrapbook pages) using the NEW Hello December collection that is available while supplies last

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I love to think outside the box and I try to challenge myself to stray from what might be expected and show another side to something to show it's broader versatility. I have just been a card-making machine lately and I just had to make cards using the new (while supplies last) Hello December Project Life Card Collection {135831} plus the coordinating Accessory Pack {135833}. You thought you'd see a memory keeping page, didn't you? Surprise!

A few days ago (this past Monday, actually) I shared 12 cards using the Trim the Tree Designer Series Paper Stack – see that post HERE. Had a lot of scraps left that were itching to be used.

Took out the card collection and just pulled out 9 that jumped out at me as easily adaptable as the focal point of a card.  I used a hodgepodge of doodads & embellishments to jazz up the cards which I will list tomorrow. For now, please enjoy the cards then hop onto the next blog.

There are the 9 cards I chose out of the Project Life collection.

Here are the scraps. Save them.. you just never know when they'll come in handy.

And here are the 9 holiday cards. I think I am going to use them as thank you cards after Christmas.  The photos sort of mute the colors as they're more vibrant in "real life." What do you think?

Need help with Stampin’ Up! project – need a photo of YOUR craft space (only if you’re NOT a demonstrator).

Hey customers (not for demonstrators) – I’m partnering with a team at Stampin' Up!’s corporate headquarters and we’re working to observe our own crafting practices as well as the practices of our customers. They've asked me to gather information about a few of my customers’ crafting spaces by collecting photos of the area in their homes where they craft.

Would you be able to e-mail me one or two photos of your crafting space? It should only take a few minutes because you just need to capture the space as it is right now (no cleaning up allowed!).

EMAIL PHOTOS TO StellarStamps@comcast.net

Thank you so much for your consideration. Let me know if you can help me out! Thanks!

You can make 96 cards out of one $7 Designer Series Paper Stack

(and other products to go with it, of course).

Supplies:

  • Cheerful Christmas (HC* w135146; c135149)
  • Filigree Frame Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (HC 135818)
  • Trim the Tree Designer Series Paper Stack (HC 35824) – has 48 sheets so you can make 96 Christmas Cards from this one $7 stack
  • Cherry Cobbler 1” Sheer Linen Ribbon (HC 135839)
  • Garden Green Classic Stampin’ Pad (AC 126973)
  • Whisper White CS* (AC* 100730)
  • Sahara Sand  CS (AC 121043
  • Garden Green CS (AC 102584)
  • Cherry Cobbler CS (AC 119685)
  • Crisp Cantaloupe CS (AC 131298)
  • Pistachio Pudding CS (AC 131294)
  • Red Glimmer Paper (AC 121790)
  • Rhinestone Basic Jewels (AC 119246)
  • Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers – Cherry Cobbler Assortment (AC 130995)
  • Stamp-a-ma-jig (AC 101049)
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals (AC 104430)
  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue (AC 110755)

Measurements:

  • Sahara Sand base = 4-1/4” x 11” or 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” (your choice – score in half)
  • DSP and card stock that will be cut into triangles (Garden Green, Cherry Cobbler, Crisp Cantaloupe & Pistachio Pudding) start as 5-1/4” x 4”
  • Garden Green = 4-1/8” x 2-7/8”
  • Red Glimmer Paper = 3-15/16” x 2-5/8”
  • Whisper White = 3-3/4” x 2-1/2”

Instructions :

Note: I took all this cutting very slowly and carefully. By doing so, I have insured perfect alignment. Take it slow, don’t fudge on the measurements, and the results will be worth it!

Note #2: How did I choose my colors?  The Trim A Tree DSP Stack product description on page 7 of the Holiday Catalog lists all the colors used in the DSP. I just used all the colors SU used except one.

1. However many cards you want to end up with, choose a balanced number of  the 4 colors of CS that you will cut into diagonals. Each piece will yield two triangles so factor that in. Don’t cut anything yet as I have important information about this later.

2. Run all the colored CS that will be cut into triangles later through the Filigree Frame embossing folder. Align carefully and be sure it doesn’t move as you insert it into the Big Shot. The embossing will be very close to the edges.

3. Important! Read this part carefully. You must cut half your card stock in one direction and the other half in another direction. I have photos below. Why? Because when you cut the DSP only one way, you need to flip it over to see the other side of the DSP pattern – one side of the DSP will align with one type of cut CS and the flip side of the DSP will align with the other type of cut of the CS.

Just imagine a rectangle with a top left and a top right corner.  Cut some with the cut starting from the top left corner. Cut the rest with the cut starting from the top right corner.

Each piece of DSP has two sides but you can’t use the reverse side unless you cut the card stock to align with it. I think the photos will show you what I mean. The DSP piece in the photo shows the front and back of one piece of the paper so it will make sense. Also when you see my samples below, you will see how the triangles align differently.

4. Cut the DSP in half diagonally. You may cut it all in one direction if you like. I did.

5. Have fun choosing your favorite color combo of DSP and CS. Find a pair you like and adhere it to the Sahara Sand card base.

6. Using the Stamp-a-ma-jig and taking a lot of care, stamp the sentiment on the Whisper White CS. It’s a snug fit but if you take it slow, it fits beautifully. The Stamp-a-ma-jig is key! If you mess up, flip the CS over and stamp again.

7. Adhere the red glimmer paper to the Garden Green then adhere the white focal piece to the red.

8. Cut a piece of ribbon about 2” long. Trim both ends so they create pennant points (see image). Fold ribbon so one edge is slightly shorter than the other and staple at the fold. Put a little bit of adhesive on it and glue/adhere it to the back of the Garden Green main piece.

9. Using Dimensionals, adhere the whole center piece onto the card base so that it pops a little and while making sure to align it straight.

10. Using your Cherry Cobbler Blendabilities marker brush tip, color the rhinestones with a few dabs of color. Dries instantly.  You will use 3 different sized rhinestones. Place them on your card as shown in images. You’re done!

Now here are 12 variations of the cards I've made so far – this has been so much fun! Thanks to my demonstrator friend, Kay Kalthoff, for the card that inspired mine. Kay's was a little different but I used hers as a starting point. Love sharing ideas as both a borrower and a giver!

The first card is Kay's and was my inspiration. The rest (12) are my interpretation.
